With more than 30 patent applications to his name, Georgios Psaros is one of med-techs industry most renowned inventors. His pioneering work in anesthesiology and life-support systems has been helping physicians save lives for almost 30 years. At present, Psaros is focusing on inventions around his life passion - fly fishing.
Georgios Psaros likes to stand in the numbingly cold waters of Sweden's northern streams, cast his fly rod and wait for the rush of adrenaline precipitated by the bite of a voracious fish. Immersed in nature, Psaros can breathe deeply and relax.
That's when the ideas begin to flow. That's when the answers come to him.
From Greece to Sweden
As vice-president of the Swedish company Maquet, formerly known as Siemens-Elema, one of the world's leading centers for the development and production of ventilation and anesthesia systems, Psaros is a man of many ideas. Since joining Siemens-Elema in 1973, he has filed over 30 patent applications. In 1996 Psaros was renowned Inventor of the Year at Siemens-Elema.
Worried about the consequences of potential conflict between Greece and Turkey, where the family founded and owned a shoe design company with factories, Psaros' father sent his son to live with a relative in Stockholm when Georgios was 17.
"My father said I would have to live with my uncle for a couple of months, but I wound up staying for over 40 years!" he remarks.

Improving his surroundings
Walk into a hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) almost anywhere, follow your ears to the steady sounds of inhalations and exhalations, and you will probably find Psaros' inventions at work.
Psaros has always had his hobby of fly fishing as the place to gather his toughts, and as he in nature feels compelled to repair and improve things at home, Psaros is never satisfied. As an practised fly fisherman with over 40 years of experience, it was only a matter of time before he would find himself restless about the poor constructions of his fly fishing gear, just as he has been before his med-tech inventions.
Countless of times, when fishing in difficult circumstances around trees and bushes, he would find himself in trouble when fighting the fish, since he only had use of one hand, due to that the common reel only have one handle.
Furthermore he feelt frustrated over the situations where he would have to switch between floating and sinking fly line, when out wading. Forced to manage screws and such parts, Psaros has lost many of theese loose parts, leaving the water with a useless fly reel.
As he amoung friends is known as "the swimmer" when fishing in streams, due to his some what eager and fearless fishing style, Psaros also lacked a robust fly reel that could take one or two bangs against the rocky bottom of the stream.
The Psaros II Trout
When Psaros mind is puzzled with matters that can be improved, he feels compelled to find the solution. That's why he has developed one of the most user friendly and groundbreaking fly fishing reel of all time. With the invention of the Psaros II Trout, the world is introduced to a fly reel with the Simultaneous L-R with handles on each side, as well as the C-frame that easily let's you switch spool and gives a robust construction without any loose parts.
The Psaros II Trout is exclusively manufactured in Sweden, in fact it's made on the same precision machines that are used in Psaros ventilation technologies, that daily helps patients breathe. With the knowledge of how imported every parts precision is in his previous work, Psaros has put the same quality level in the Psaros II Trout, with it's robust construction without any loose parts, and yet has that graceful touch. Even the trademarked sound of the reel, is planned in its very detail.
So go ahead, cast your rod, and enjoy to feel every movement that the line makes in the reel. And remember, just before the vigour fish bite and you feel the rush of adrenaline, that in your hands you're holding an equipment made from the same man, and with the same precision, that daily saves life.
